The hamsters (to pronounce /ams.t ɛr/; German hamstern , “to make reserves”), Cricetinae , is small Rongeur S of the family of Muridés. There are at least 54 species, divided into several kinds. One should not confuse them with the hamster-moles which belong as for them to the subfamily of the Myospalacinae.

One finds in breeding of the Cricetus , Mesocricetus and Phodopus . Only some species are regarded as domestic, for example in France only certain races of the Hamster gilded.

They occupy a natural geographical distribution in North Africa, in certain parts of Europe, with the the Middle East, the east of the Siberia until in China.
