Hamshahri

Hamshahri is a newspaper of Iran, founded by Gholamhossein Karbastchi.

Hamshahri is the most important daily newspaper of Iran (: 400000 daily specimens); popular, it was known for its “moderate” positions (in opposition to “conservative”) until in 2003 date of the victory of the conservatives to the local elections of Teheran.

At the time of the International crisis of the caricatures of Mahomet, the February 6th 2006, the Hamshahri newspaper launches a contest international of caricature on the Holocaust.

The February 8th 2006, scandalized, the United States show Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to be the initiator of this business of the caricatures on the holocaust.

Washington was declared “scandalized” by the advertisement of the contest of caricatures on Shoa organized by the Iranian daily newspaper “Hamshahri”. “Any attempt to make fun or disparage some way that it is the horror which represented the holocaust is simply scandalous”, declared the spokesperson of the State Department, Sean McCormack, before allotting the responsibility for this initiative to the Iranian president. “ One can almost hear the voice of the president Ahmadinejad in the proposal of this newspaper ”.
