Hampton Hawes
Hampton Hawes (November 13rd 1928 - May 22nd 1977) was a Pianiste Afro-American of Jazz.
Hawes was born and grew with Los Angeles in California; before the twenty years age he played already with famous musicians: Dexter Gordon, Sony Criss and Wardell Gray. Hawes éatit member of the orchestra of Howard McGhee in which he played with Charlie Parker. He also played with Charles Mingus (see the album " Mingus Three" (1957, Caster)
After having been in the army of 1952 with 1954, Hawes formed a trio with the Bassiste Red Mitchell and the Batteur Chuck Thompson. In 1958, it was arrested for detention of Héroïne and was imprisoned until in 1963 when John F. Kennedy granted the presidential pardon to him.
At its coming out of prison, it started again to play and record. It tried out the electronic music before turning over finally to musiqque acoustics. In Raise Up Off Me , its autobiography published in 1974, it tells its experiment of the dependence to heroin, the movement Bebop and its friendship with some of the best musicians of the time. Hawes died of apoplexy at the 48 years age.
