Hampden Park is the national stage Scottish since its construction in 1903. It is also the stage of the Queen' S Park FC. He saw being held many duels against “Auld Enemy” English, like several European finales.
History
Origin
The club of Queen' S Park evolves/moves in Hampden Park since 1873, the present stage is the third to bear this name. Old Hampden renamed Cathkin Park was sold with the Third Lanark Football Club.Queen' S Park FC bought grounds in the district of Mount Florida in 1903 in order to build there the current stage of Hampden, conceived by the Scottish architect Archibald Leitch. During its inauguration, the October 31st 1903, the club was essential 1 to 0 vis-a-vis the Celtic Glasgow.
Hampden was the greatest stage of the world until the construction of the Maracanã to Rio de Janeiro in 1950. It became famous for its environment and the songs of the supporters Scottish, according to the legend the sound volume intimidated the visitors teams.
Restorations
Hampden was renovated during the years 1990, after the Tragédie of Hillsborough and the publication of the Taylor report/ratio. The southern platform was the only platform covered and equipped with seats, in order to improve comfort and safety of the spectators the whole stage was covered and the places upright were entirely replaced by sitted places. Since the completion of the last phase of work, in May 1999, the stage has a capacity of 52.500 spectators.Hampden Park is the only Scottish stage with Ibrox Stadium to have obtained the label stage 5 stars decreed by UEFA.
Disputed famous finales with Hampden
Hampden Park accommodates each year the final of the cut of Scotland, trophy whose first edition was gained in 1874 by Queen' S Park Football Club.May 18th 1960 the final of the Cut of the champions (ancestor of current the League of the Champions), opposed the Real Madrid to the Eintracht Frankfurt in front of 130.000 spectators. The match was gained 7 goals with 3 by the inhabitants of Madrid taken along by Alfredo Di Stefano and Ferenc Puskás.
The stage also accommodated the final of the edition 1976, on this occasion the French club of Saint-Etienne was demolishes by the Bayern of Munich of the Franz Beckenbauer.
In 2002 Real Madrid gained once again the trophy while having the Bayer Leverkusen, in particular thanks to a recovery of stolen of Zinedine Zidane.
May 16th, 2007, Hampden Park accommodated the final of the UEFA Cup, gained with the shootings with the goal by FC Seville at the expense of the Espanyol Barcelona.
