- 1887 : foundation of the club under the name of Hamburger FC 1888
- 1914: the club is famous Hamburger SV 1888
- 1919: fusion with FC Falke 1906 Hamburg in Hamburger SV 1888
- 1919: fusion with SC Germania Hamburg in Hamburger SV
- 1960: 1st participation in a Cut of Europe (C1) (season 1960/61)
- 1980: 1st final of C1: Hamburg inclines in front of Nottingham Forest (1-0)
- 1983: 2nd finale of C1: Hamburg beats the Juventus of Turin (1-0) thanks to a goal of Felix Magath and becomes champion of Europe.
