History

  • Which archeology says?

The discovery of modest prehistoric objects proves that the site was occupied for the Mesolithic period (10 000 to 5000 years before J.C). On arrival of the Romans in Ier century before J.C, the territory of the commune depended on the Belgian tribe of the Ménapiens. It is thought that the Roman way going from Turned to Estaires was to pass by Hallennes, but no proof makes it possible for the moment to affirm it.
  • the Middle Ages.

In 1127 the bishop of Turned Symon mentions the d'" place; Halesnes" in a Charte of donation to an abbey of Denain. This Halennes time depended spiritually on the church of Haubourdin. In 1164 the hamlet of Hallennes is quoted in the cartulaire of the abbey of Loos. At the 13th century Hallennes becomes a parish because in 1262 one notes the presence of a priest. A certain Joseph occupied this load in 1264. About the same time we find a mill and a Pilori. Even if the village is influenced by the monks of Loos, this one were to be controlled by the powerful family of Wavrin. In 1211 a Serf of Hallennes of the name of Jean Goben was given by Hellin de Wavrin. In 1348 one quotes a Gilles d' Hallennes knight and lord of Erquinghem (this place was a long time related to Hallennes), this one took part in the battle of Lécluse in 1340.Le lord of Hallennes carried the following blazon sown sand of cross to the driven foot and two leant gold dolphins, stitching on the whole .
  • Cuinghiens.

In the middle of the 15th century, the seigniory of Hallennes passes to the family of Cuinghien. This one will play a big role in a climate of disorders and destruction caused by the wars between the dynasty of the Ducs of Burgundy (on which Hallennes depends) and the kings of France. Cuinghiens were manufacturers; at the end of the 15th century they build the castle of Hallennes, in 1518 it was the turn of the bell-tower and in 1536 it was the rebuilding of the chorus of the church
  • Of gold with five cotices of mouth.

At the 16th century the family of Harchies inherited the seigniory. Although often remaining in their residence of Berquin or with Tournai this dynasty was attached to the village. The castle was decorated of one garden to the Frenchwoman (certainly modest). Some members of this family chose the church of the parish as last residence (we can still nowadays observe their lying out of black stones used by the feet and the vicissitudes of the History). During the time of Harchies, Hallennes was joined together in France in 1668 (Treaty of Aachen). A few years later the king of France Louis XIV raised the lord under Count d' Hallennes. To died from Louis Joseph de Harchies de Ville, Hallennes passed to the family of Nassau, this one kept bonds with the village until the French revolution. The armorial bearings of Harchies Of gold with five cotices of mouths are currently the official blazon of the commune of Hallennes lez Haubourdin.
