Halite

The halite (of the Greek halls = salt and Lithographies = stone) is a Minéral, composed of Sodium chloride of formula NaCl. It is called also rock salt .

It is colorless in its smoothed form Cristal (cubic), but the presence of impurities gives him sometimes a reddish or blue color.

Layers

Halite is component many evaporitic rocks, coming from the evaporation of Lac S or salted Mer S. The layers have a thickness which varies few meters to 30 m and it was found by it with impressive depths. This mineral is often in partnership with the Gypse, the sylvite, the Calcite, the Argile and the Sable.

Use

Its principal uses are:

  • as a Condiment, in the form of Salt of table refined; the natural marine salt also contains other salts;
  • like Water-softener;
  • halite is the principal one constituting salt employed for the salting of the Route S.
