Hakea
Hakea is a kind of 149 species of bushes or shrubs of the family of the Proteaceae , originating in Australia. One finds them in all the country but it is in the south-west of the Western Australia that one finds of it the greatest number of species. They can reach 1 to 6 meters in height and have sheets laid out in spiral measuring from 2 to 20 centimetres length, simple or composed, sometimes as at Hakea drupacea having leaflets of needles as at the Juncaceae . The flowers are approximately gathered variable bouquets of forms, in ball or cylinder, from 3 to 10 centimetres length with many small red, yellow, pink flowers, crimsons, blue pale or white
The Hakea owe their name to the baron Christian Ludwig von Hake, a German Botaniste of the XVIIIe century.
Classification
The Hakea are very close to the kinds Grevillea and Finschia , both members also of the subfamily of the Grevilleoideae in the family of the Proteaceae . Many species have the same type of inflorescence but the Hakea are characterized some by their woody capsules.
Horticulture
The Hakea are decorative plants frequently met in the Australian gardens although they are not it as much as the Grevillea and the Baksia . One developed several hybrids and cultivars. They push easily in the light and well drained grounds if they are sufficiently sprinkled
Some species of the sunny areas of the west like Hakea multilineata , Hakea francisiana and Hakea bucculenta must be grafted on species as '' [[Hakea salicifolia]] '' to push in the wetter climates because they are sensitive to '' [[Phytophthora cinnamomi]] ''.
Many species especially that of the east of Australia are known for their rusticity so much so that they became invading. '' [[Hakea gibbosa]] '', '' [[Hakea sericea]] '' and '' [[Hakea drupacea]] '' became “bad grasses” in [[South Africa]], '' [[Hakea laurina]] '' was naturalized around [[Adelaide]].
