Hajduk Veljko Petrović , in Serbe Cyrillique ВељкоПетровић (born towards 1780 - died in 1813) was a Serb Voïvode which was illustrated at the time of the First Serb revolt against the Turks.

In 1807, it took part in the release of the Montenegro of the Othoman influence and, in 1809, it took part in the defense of Sokobanja.

Veljko Petrović organized the rebellion against the Turks in the East of the Serbia. He died in the battle of Negotin in 1813.

Appreciated for its courage, the hajduk Veljko Petrović was celebrated by Serb epic poetry.

Anecdotes

He affirmed: “I will give my head, but I will not give the Krajina. ”

Right before the battle of Negotin, one as of his/her friends suggested to him sending his gold, its jewels and its good of value to its family so that they do not fall to the hands from the Turks. But Veljko Petrović refused: he considered that this cowardice was unworthy of large a hajduk.
