Haim Ramon

Haim Ramon (April 10th 1950, Jaffa (Israel)) is a politician and parliamentary Israeli. He is member of the party Kadima since 2005. Minister for the Justice of the May 4th 2006 with the August 20th 2006. 1st Deputy Prime Minister, minister without portfolio since the July 4th 2007.

Political career

Born with Jaffa, Ramon is used in Israeli aviation to the row as captain, then studies the right to the Université of Tel Aviv. It joined the workers party at the time when it leaves the army and becomes secretary of the Labor youth of 1978 with 1989. He is elected with the Knesset in 1981.

In 1992, Ramon becomes Ministre for the Health of the government of Yitzhak Rabin. Its disagreement on the economic policy of Rabin which he considers too liberal brings it to resign in 1994 and to aspire to the direction of the Histadrout with the support of Amir Peretz. It returns to the government under Shimon Peres after the assassination of Rabin, as a Minister of Interior Department of 1995 to the Labor defeat of 1996.

With the return of the members of the Labor Party in the government of Ehoud Barak in 1999, Ramon takes a station of supervision of the reforms and relations of the government with the Parliament. It becomes again Minister of Interior Department in 2000, until the defeat of Barak to the anticipated elections of 2001. It disallows the proposals of Barak to integrate Labor ministers in the coalition government of Ariel Sharon, and does not take part in the coalition formed by Sharon and Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, successor of Barak to the head of the members of the Labor Party. Haim Ramon loses the internal elections in November 2002, vis-a-vis Amram Mitzna.

In November 2005, Haim Ramon joined the new party of Ariel Sharon, Kadima.

The “kiss of dead”
