Hail! Bright Cecilia

Hail! Bright Cecilia , also called Ode to St Cecilia (“Ode with holy Cecile”), is a made up work for orchestra of Henry Purcell in 1692.

This part was made up on a text of Nicholas Brady for the festival of Sainte Cecile, owner of the musicians.

The festivities go up with 1683 on the initiative of the Musical Society of London, meeting of musicians and amateurs. Purcell had already written some parts for the former celebrations but this ode remains most known. The orchestra included/understood trumpet S, drinking cups, recorders and low, as well as a Orgue, each instrument having a solo part to develop itself. The first representation was a real success, work having been darkened.

To note that compositions in the honor of holy Cécile were written by Alessandro Scarlatti, Benjamin Britten and Georg Friedrich Haendel.
