Iron and steel industry

It is into 1911 that Thyssen founds the Forging mills and Steel-works of Hagondange with a preliminary draft including/understanding four blast furnaces. But very quickly, the decision is made to set up six of them, put at fire between 1912 and 1914. From 1920, in fact the UCPMI exploits the factory of Hagondange and its six blast furnaces are the subject of repairs in 1923 (HF5), 1934 and 1937 (HF4 and HF1), 1941 (HF3) and 1950 (HF6). In 1951, blast furnace 2, put except fire in 1949 for demolition, is in the course of total rebuilding; the production reaches 600.000 tons of cast iron then… then 8 20.000 tons in 1961. The HF6 is stopped in June 1963. In 1967, for the first time since 1948, three blast furnaces only are enough to ensure the production. In 1973, the five blast furnaces, 6 meters in diameter to the crucible, have a capacity of 1.000.000 tons cast iron. The HF2 is stopped in 1974, followed HF1 and HF3 in 1977 and 1978. The last two blast furnaces (HF4 and 5) are extinct on June 23rd, 1979.
