Habitus (mineralogy)

See also: Habitus

In Mineralogy, the habitus is the crystalline Forme dominant of a Minéral, i.e. the most frequent mode of association of its crystalline faces.

For example, the Diamond and the Pyrite crystallize both in the cubic system. However, diamond is usually presented in the form (habitus) of Octaèdre S brilliances, whereas the pyrite generally forms Cube S with the striated faces, less often of the octahedral ones.
