Habiba Bouhamed Chaabouni

Habiba Bouhamed Chaabouni is professeure of medical Génétique to the Université of Tunis.

In 1981, it creates the first genetic consulting service, then lance of the epidemiological studies on the Consanguinité in the north of the Tunisia, an area where the rate of genetic diseases, Malformation S and Mortalité is particularly high. Its studies show that, in this area, a quarter of the Mariage S are made between first cousins.

In 1993, it sets up a service of medical genetics and consultation in order to encourage the populations to carry out tests of Prenatal diagnosis. Its work makes it possible to identify news changes intervening in various pathologies.

In parallel, it creates a third cycle of genetics at the medical college of Tunis. In 2006, it receives the price UNESCO-L' ORÉAL for the women and science.
