Haaretz
Haaretz ((הארץ, country) is one of the three plus national famous daily newspapers in Israel. It belongs to the Schocken family. Its current owner is Amos Schocken, pertaining to the third generation.
He is the third daily newspaper of Israel, far behind Maariv and Yediot Aharonot , but its influence is in fact more important than its diffusion.
History
Haaretz was created in 1919 with Jerusalem, in a Palestine then under British mandate. The leading line of the newspaper is specified under the cane of Gershom Schocken, editor as a chief of 1939 to 1990. It was replaced by Hanoch Marmari and Yoël Esteron, themselves replaced in 2004 per David Landau and Tami Litani.
Leading line
Haaretz is the torch of the Israeli left. This political positioning very clearly, like its very traditional graphic charter, make that it is often compared wrongly or rightly with newspapers like the French daily newspaper Le Monde , or the International Herald Tribune .
Haaretz also went to the point of the engagements in favor of the withdrawal of the Occupied territories, as well as defense of the rights of the Palestinians. It was one of most enthusiastic the supporters Accords of Oslo.
Strongly anticlerical, it does not hesitate to pose the religious problems in terms of sociétaux problems, contributing to religious cleavage/not-monk in Israel.
Among the large feathers of this daily newspaper, let us quote:
- Yoël Marcus,
- Zeev Schiff, famous for its analyzes on the questions military and related to safety,
- Gideon Levy,
- Danny Rubinstein,
- Amir Oren,
- Amira Hass, one of rare the reporters Israeli having established residence in the Territories under Palestinian authority, in fact with Ramallah.
