Haïm Bar-Lev

Haïm Bar-Lev (in Hebrew: חייםבר - לב) (of its true name " Brotzlevsky"), born in 1924 and deceased in 1994, is the eighth chief of Staff of Tsahal.

Biography

Haïm Bar-Lev is born in 1924 with Vienna, in Austria. In 1939, at the 15 years age, it emigrates towards the Palestine and studies at the school of agriculture of Mikvé-Israel.

It begins its military career in 1942. It enters within the forces of the Palmah. In 1946, whereas it fulfills the functions of chief of the 4th squadron of Palmah, it orders the dynamiting of the bridge Allenby at the time of the Nuit of the bridges, during which 11 bridges are destroyed by the forces of the Haganah.

In 1948, with the beginning of the War of Independence, it is named ordering Unité Hanéguev, and takes part in various combat and operations, of which the operation Horev. In 1952, at the 28 years age, he becomes commander for all the Northern area of Israel, and two years later, he enters the forces of the unit Guivati. In 1956, at the time of the War of the Sinai, it is useful in the armoured tanks where it will remain until in 1961.

In 1961, Bar-Lev leaves to the the United States, where he studies finance and the economy at the university of Colombia to New York. It returns to Israel in 1964. In 1966, it leaves again for Paris where it studies political sciences, but one year later, it is recalled to its military functions in Israel, some time before the Guerre the Six Day old.

In 1968, it is named eighth chief of Staff of Tsahal, in the place of Yitzhak Rabin, station which it occupies until in 1972. In 1992, it is promoted ambassador of the State of Israel in Russia, station which it occupies until his death. Haïm Bar-Lev dies into 1994 of the continuations of a serious disease.
