HS File Transfer Protocol

the word SFTP can refer to others communication protocols that this one.

In the context of Secure Shell (HS), SFTP describes these two things:

  • a program in line of order which implements the customer part of this communication protocol, like that provided by OpenSSH.

Compared with the preceding protocol SCP, protocol SFTP supports much more operations on remote files. It behaves more like one protocol of Filing system. It is supposed being more independent of the platform of use; for example, with SCP, the extension of the Wildcards (*) specified by the customer are with the load of the waiter, which in fact what he wants, whereas the architecture of SFTP avoids this kind of problems.

The program sftp brings an interface similar to the program ftp . Protocol SFTP is not ftp with the top of HS or SSL (visit Secure ftp); It is a new protocol conceived completely by the work group IETF SECSH.

Certain implementations of the program SCP use in fact protocol SFTP in the place of protocol SCP.

sftp is often associated with the protocol (and the program) HS -2, because they were conceived at the same time by the same group. However, it is possible to make it function on HS, and certain implementations do it.
