HSL-Oost

HSL-Oost was the name of a news Ligne at high speed in project with the Netherlands. It was to connect Amsterdam to the Germany via the towns of Utrecht and Arnhem. Its layout corresponded more or less to that of the historical line skirting the the Rhine.

The construction of this line was suspended in 2001. However, the new project envisages additional connections between Utrecht and Arnhem, thanks to the improvement of the historical line, and the arrival of trains ICE coming from Germany. The latter should in addition be able to circulate at a more important speed, of 200 km/h on the section Utrecht - Amsterdam, it as of 2006.
