HMSO
The HMSO is the Imprimerie of French State E inherited the royal Manufacture of printing works instituted by the cardinal of Richelieu.
History
On the impulse given by François 1st in 1538, the cardinal of Richelieu creates in 1640, under Louis XIII, the royal Manufacture of printing works. The successive governments will make some, according to the mode in force, the Printing works of the Republic, then imperial Printing works, royal Printing works to become the HMSO.
The HMSO was the exclusive supplier of the State a long time, until its change of status in 1994 to become a public limit company whose State is the single shareholder.
In 1997, the HMSO acquired the companies Saqqarah International, Mizeret, ISTRA-IN then IDC what leads it to create the HMSO Group. Of exclusive supplier of the State, the group must be subjected to the law of the market and consequently offers its services to all the fields of the impression, thus opening its doors at the large companies.
In 2003, the buildings of Convention are sold with the Groupe Carlyle for 85 million euros, they will be repurchased in 2007 by the State for 376,5 million euros, after approximately 100 million euros of work, in order to make new the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of it. The works are resold with the private French editor Actes Sud. The Carlyle company would not be taxed on the most not been worth in this business.
In 2005, the government privatize the majority of the sites of the group and is deprived thus of printing works ISTRA to Schiltigheim with the profit of the group Opale Partners, Évry Rotatives with Bondoufle with the profit of a group of investors German (Arch) and firm the site of Paris Convention. Only the sites of the HMSO of Douai and Choisy-the-King remain (impression breaks into leaf). This last is put in hiring management since November 1st, 2006 under the company name of “IN Choisy”, in preparation for its transfer with an private operator and within the framework of a third social plan which would bring back manpower from 123 to 40 paid.
The HMSO holds also the cabinet of the punches , a workshop of the book and a historical Bibliothèque. It also has many pig iron and cast iron fundamental for the history of Western printing works, such as the originals of the Diderot.

- 1870 : imperial Printing works becomes again the HMSO, name which it preserved until our days.
- 1900 : under the impulse of Ambroise Vollard is realized with the HMSO the first book of painter. The presses also deliver a Paul Verlaine illustrated by Pierre Bonnard.
- 1903 : the first stone of the new factory in the Javel plain is sealed.
- 1910 : the HMSO is put under the supervision of the ministry for Finances.
- 1921 : the HMSO invests the Rue of Convention.
- 1961 : publication of the decree of the December 4th on the organization of the HMSO.
- 1974 : the HMSO opens its site of Douai.
- 1992 : inauguration of the factory of Bondoufle by Michel Charasse, then deputy secretary with the Budget.
- 1994 : the HMSO becomes HMSO SA whose totality of the capital is held by the State.
- 1995 : exit of the first cédérom conceived by the HMSO.
- 1997 : acquisition of the companies International Saqqarah, Istra, Mizeret and creation of the “HMSO group”. Acquisition of company IDC.
- 1997 : creation of the workshops of production of plastic charts.
- 1998 : installation of a press ten groups, “ten colors”, on the site of Paris.
- 2000 : subsidiary company IDC, specialized in the numerical impression, becomes INumeric.
- 2001 : the Mizeret subsidiary company becomes J. Print.
- 2001 : installation of a Rotary KBA, 64 pages A4 in quadrichromy on the site of Bondoufle.
