HK ŠKP Poprad

The HK ŠKP Poprad ( HK Športový klub polície Poprad ) is the club of Hockey of the town of Poprad in Slovakia. The team evolves/moves in the Extraliga, higher division Slovak.

History

Founded in 1929 under the name of Karpathenverein Poprad, the club is famous HC Poprad in 1930. Since 1933, he is crowned better team of Slovakia.

Re-elected HC Tatry in 1935, the team takes part in the championship of Czechoslovakia of the first division between 1945 and 1947. Then the club takes the name of Sokol Tatry Poprad in 1948 and TJ Tatran Poprad in 1950 and takes part again in the championship of the first division between 1951 and 1954.

The club still changes name to become Lokomotíva-Vagónka-Stavbár (LVS) Poprad , then Telovýchovnej jednoty (TJ) Pozemné stavby (PS) Poprad , ČH Poprad in 1988 and, in 1990, ŠKP PS Poprad .

In 1991, after 37 seasons in the second division, the team reaches once again the first division of the championship of Czechoslovakia, where it is maintained until 1993. Following the partition of Czechoslovakia in 1993, Poprad joined the Slovak Extraliga. After two third places in 1997 and 1998, the team finishes in the second place of the championship in 2006.

Poprad also gained the Cut of the Tatras to twelve recoveries into 1935,1936,1937,1938,1939,1940,1942,1943,1947,1995,2000 and 2001.
