HD Ready
HD Ready is at the same time a Logo and a label launched in the month of June 2005, the purpose of which is to make it possible to the consumers to identify a television able to post a video signal just like HD the label HDTV for the readers and recorders of discs. In Europe, it is the only quality control mark defined by.
Logo HDTV will be posted on the readers and recorders of discs, while HD Ready will appear on the screens.
The logo is presented like signs quality for the differentiation of the equipment of posting, able to treat and show the signals high-definition, allotted on the basis of the conditions minimum of functionality.
Being authorized to exploit the HD Ready label on equipment, the manufacturer must commit himself so that its characteristics observe the following conditions:
-
To have a format of image 16:9 with a tolérence of 5%
- To have a minimal vertical resolution of 720 lines
- To accept in entry of the signals to the standards 720p and 1080i
- To have an analogical entry supporting signals HD.
- To lay out of an entry numerical DVI or HDMI supporting the protocol European anti-copy (HDCP).
The respect of the conditions is self-checking.
The criteria of eligibility to the label HD Ready guarantee the possibility of diffusing the majority of signals HD now definite. However, the diffusion is not guaranteed in the native resolution of the signal, and the programs diffused in 1080p are not taken into account.
HD Ready or Full HD?
In France in the month of July 2006, the majority of the first television programs diffused in HD with the adequate terminals (on Euro1080, on TPS, CanalSat and experimental TNT HD) it in a definition of 1920x1080 are interlaced. An HD Ready television set does not have very often the sufficient definition to completely post such a signal without the redimensionner with a loss of resolution ( downscaling ).
If one wants to benefit fully from the emissions in 1080p, a television set with a flagstone of a native resolution equal or higher than 1920x1080 pixels is necessary. name Full HD is generally affixed on such products.
However, perceived visual comfort cannot summarize with the numerical Résolution of the image. On a side, the To be able of resolution of the human eye imposes a limit of distance from which it is impossible to make the difference between two pixels, so that the surplus of resolution is useless. On another side, the operation of " downscaling" fact of intervening a numerical Interpolation which deteriorates necessarily the image. An image received in 1080i visualized in 720p can thus appear of less quality that the same image received in 720p and visualized such as it is. Other complex factors psychovisuels can enter concerned, so that one cannot predict by the theory in which situation a person will perceive an improvement rather by using a screen Full HD than HD Ready. Only the experiment can reveal it.
