HALL Laboratory, Inc. is a studio of development of Japanese video games pertaining to Nintendo. HALL Laboratory was founded the February 21st 1980, the name HALL coming from the computer HALL 9000 of the film 2001, the odyssey of space . The company is famous to have developed the series of the Kirby and the Super Bros Smash..
With the beginning of the year 1980, the company developed exclusively on MSX. It is only starting from 1986 that HALL started has to develop on Famicom (more particularly on Famicom Disk System) and became internal developer of Nintendo.
During first half of the years 1990, the company used the name HALKEN , derived from Japanese HALL Kenkyūjo (Kenkyūjo meaning in Japanese laboratory). The company also has a named American subsidiary company HALL America.
It is interesting to note that the current President of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, was before president de Hal Laboratory.
