H.S.M. Coxeter

Harold Scott MacDonald “Donald” Coxeter (February 9th 1907, London - March 31st 2003, Toronto, Canada) is a British Mathématicien . He is regarded as one of large the geometricians of the 20th century. One of its original ideas was to define a Conique like a car-dual curve. It was made known by its work on the regular Polytope S and the geometry in higher dimension. It met Mr. C. Escher and its geometrical work was an important source of inspiration for this last. It also inspired some of the innovations of Buckminster Fuller.

Biography

He studied the Philosophie mathematics under the direction of Ludwig Wittgenstein with the Trinity College with Cambridge. There remained some time in Cambridge, then continued its studies with the Université of Princeton.

In 1936, he teaches with the Université of Toronto, where he becomes professor in 1948. It there worked during 60 years and published twelve books.

Honors

During its career, it received several honorary doctorates of various universities.
