Hōjō clan

The clan Hōjō is a family of Samurai S which dominated the policy of the Japan during the Period Kamakura.
Descendants of the clan Will conceal, they took their name of the small town of Hōjō, in the Province of Izu. When in 1180 Minamoto No Yoritomo, son-in-law of Tokimasa Hōjō, then chief of the clan, leaves his exile to fight to them Taira during the Guerre of Gempei, Hōjō line up on its side. After the death of Yoritomo, they are essential near the Shogun S following as a Shikken (regents), and dominate in fact the government of Japan.

Important note
A another clan bore this name during the Period Sengoku. This clan is not related to the Hōjō clan, known as of Kamakura, of which made object this article.
