Hérode Atticus
Hérode Atticus ( Ἡρώδης ὁ Ἀττικός ) known also under its Roman name Lucius Vibullius Hipparchus Tiberius Claudius Atticus Herodes (104-180) was famous a Greek Rhéteur , born with Marathon.
It was wire of Jules Atticus, Athenian who had grown rich very by a blow by the discovery of an immense treasure.
Rhéteur and Sophist of his state, it taught with glare in Athens, and obtained such a reputation that the emperor Antonin chooses it to be tutor of Marc-Aurèle and Lucius Verus, its two adoptive sons.
II was made Consul the year 143, and was charged with the government of part of Asia and Greece. It embellishes several Greek cities whose Alexandria de Troade and Athens or it makes build a Odéon leant with the Acropole, of which there remain beautiful ruins.
Hérode Atticus excelled especially in the improvisation. It had composed a great number of speeches, which did not reach us; one finds a declamation under his name in the collections of Greek speakers.
Its life is reported in particular by Philostrate in its Vies of the Sophists (delivers II).
