Hébécrevon

Hébécrevon is a common French, located in the department of the Manche and the area Basse-Normandie.

Geography

The Toponym " Hébécrevon" mean literally the rafter of Hebertus or the rafter of Hébert . This rafter, i.e. a quevron or a crevon in language Norman, being a beam making function of a small wood bridge making it possible to cross small a Affluent of the Transfers. The name of Hebertus returns when to him to the Roman presence in the area.

History

Hébécrevon and its water were the object of several books written with the whole beginning of the XVIIè century.

Guillaume Destouteville, doctor with Saint-Lo, was the author in 1613 of one little book rare of 39 pages, true Discours of the virtues and properties of medicinal water of Hébécrevon , dedicated to Charles of Matignon, count of Torigni-sur-Vire and also baron of Saint-Lo

In same time, Jacques Cahagnes, doctor, born with Caen in 1548, wrote on the same subject two other works. The first, in 1612, Jacobini Cahagnesii, professoris regii, of aquâ subsidence Hebecrevonii proelectio and the second in 1614, Censori proelectionis of aquâ Hebecrevonii subsidence, sub nominates Francisci Chicotii ementito, Jacobi Chagnesii responsio .

The same year, in 1614, the sior of Maynes wrote on this question and in answer to calumnies of which was victim Jacques Cahagnes Répartie in favor of Mr. de Cahagnes of water of Hébécrevon, close Saint-Lo, by the sior of Maynes, against one makes out scandalous .

Lastly, Hubin, sior of Bastie, convert to the protesting worship, wrote in 1617 a curious work called " The Fountain of Youth of France, at the village of Hébécrevon close S-Gisles in Costentin". the mineral water of Hébécrevon and Saint Gisles indeed then was very appreciated by the Protestants of Normandy and Brittany.
