Håkon Sigurdsson
The Jarl of Hladir Håkon Sigurdsson called “the Powerful one”, was born towards 937 and exerted the power in Norway with the title of jarl until in 995.
Wire of Bergljot, a grand-daughter of Harald to the beautiful hair, and jarl Sigurd, combined Hakon the Good of which it accepted the name. His/her father dominated the Thrandheim, in the north of Norway, when it was killed by Harald Pelisse gray.
Hakon succeeded to him and fought three years against the kings of the country before treating with them. After three years of peace, the fight began again and the jarl had to flee in Denmark. Combined with Harald with the blue tooth, it took again capacity in Norway in 970 in the name of this king. The two years which followed, it countered the ultimate attempts at a brother of gray Fur-lined coat, Ragnfrödr, to take again the throne.
In 974, it came to reinforce its sovereign with the Jutland when blue Dent had to undergo a forwarding of Otton II of the Holy roman Empire. They were overcome and Hakon, deeply pagan, was forced to accept the baptism. As soon as it left the king, it drove out the priests and got rid of Danish suzerainty, which started again the conflict between the two countries.
After having vainly tried to take again Norway in person, the Danish king sent against Hakon terrible the Viking S of Jomsborg but they were massacred by the jarl at the time of a great battle. A saga specifies that it had sacrificed one of its sons to a goddess to make sure of the victory.
It was a good manager but its abuses of authority ended up causing the revolt of the Norwegians in 995, following the rape of a woman of the nobility. That facilitated the seizure of power by Olaf Tryggvason. It will be finally killed in a soue with pigs by a slave with whom it hid. Its sons Eric Håkonsson and Svein Håkonsson then took again the fight against the kings of Norway.
