Häme
Old province of Finland, its name French (obsolete) is Tavastie . Häme is the name Finnois and Tavastland the name Swedish. Today, this province is divided between the contemporary provinces of southernmost Finland and Western Finland. Its old borders correspond about to the unit formed by the areas of Finland-Power station, Kanta-Häme and Päijät-Häme.
History
The Swedish conquerors run up at the time of their second crusade of 1239 against many and well organized tribes. The Swedish build the castle of Tavastehus (Hämeenlinna), first castle inside the grounds and 3rd on the Finnish territory (after Turku and Vyborg). The castle loses the essence of its interest of guard of the border before even the end of its construction. Indeed, in 1323, the signature of the Traité of Nöteborg indeed pushes back the border between Sweden and Novgorod until the Lac Ladoga and with the Isthme of Karelia, several hundred kilometers in the east.
Since then, Häme always occupied a central position in Finland, with in the east the Savonie and the Karelia, Uusimaa in the south, the Ostrobotnie and the Satakunta in the west, and finally the Ostrobotnie of North and the Lapland in north.
