Gymnotus

The Gymnotes ( Gymnotus ) are Poisson S of fresh water of Central America and Southern. They have all of the electric bodies (called électroplaques or électrocyte).

The gymnotes live on banks of the encumbered rivers of dead sheets and roots and in the flooded meadows. They are the predatory night ones nourishing insects, the crustacean ones and other fish. They produce an electric field in order to locate objects, and can be to communicate. The electric shocks of this fish can reach 800 volts. To move this fish uses a paraxial locomotion, more precisely its stroke follows the anal undulatory mode, i.e. only its anal fin functions.
