Biography
Origin
He is the son of Jean de Montfort (1385 - 1415), known as Guy XIII of Laval and Anne of Laval (1385 - 1466). In 1420, Guy XIV, just fourteen years old, is the second nobody who affixes his signature with the petition sent to king d' Angleterre to ask for to him the delivery of Arthur, count de Richemont, prisoner since the Bataille of Azincourt. The count de Richemont is released in September of the same year.
In 1424, it accompanies Arthur de Richemont, future constable, with the brilliant reception which had prepared to him the queen Yolande d' Aragon in her Château of Angers. It was then a question of detaching the Breton captain of the party of the English and sparing a bringing together between Brittany and France.
Companion of Jeanne d' Arc
It joined the June 8th 1429, with Saddle-in-Berry (Selles-sur-Cher), the royal army which joins together Jeanne d' Arc and the duke of Alençon to continue the release of the Loire Valley after the lifting of the Siège of Orleans. It left, in a letter with his mother, a lifelike portrait of Jeanne d' Arc of which he became an enthusiastic admiror. They are distinguished with Jargeau, Beaugency, and especially with Patay where it fights with the avant-garde.
The sacring of Charles VII
With his brother Andre de Lohéac, it followed the sovereign to Rheims and assists with the Sacre Charles VII of France, replacing the count of Flanders (which was the duke of Burgundy). Among the favors granted by the king to this occasion, the ground of Laval was set up in county and Guy of Laval was made governor of Lagny in 1430.

He had been promised in marriage, in 1420, with Marguerite de Dreux the proper sister of Isabelle, itself promised in marriage, then, with Louis III of Anjou.
The duchy of Brittany
In 1439. It negotiated the attempt at Franco-English treaty to Gravelines. Guy XIV had attended Tours, the January 14th 1446, with the singular combat which took place in front of Charles VII between Jean Chalons, English and Louis of Bueil which was killed. As its ancestors had founded the four emoluments canonicales Saint-Jean-with-Langeais, he complained about what the canons obtained from the indults which exempted them to reside, so that the divine service is not assured any more.

Marriage with Francoise de Dinan
One knows that after, realizing finances, having let break in favor of Gilles of Brittany engagement of his son Guy XV to Francoise de Dinan, in 1440. Guy XIV misused again the young age of this same wire, to remove one second time, his promised in marriage, then widowed to him of Gilles of Brittany, and to marry it at 45 years in February 1451 with Vitré, Francoise de Dinan († 1500), baroness of Chateaubriant. Guy XIV does not have any right on the baronnie of Chateaubriant.The files of the Vatican give us even the two acts requested on this occasion of the the Holy See by Guy XIV and his son. The investigation relating to François-Guy of Laval, oldest son of Guy, count de Laval, lord of Gavre is July 23rd 1450 and addressed to the bishop of Nantes. One pleads there for canonical reason of an exemption of relationship of the 3 to the 3 that the mariaga was treated to put peace between the parents of promised in marriage. The mandate to exempt of the 2 to the 3 Guy XIV and Francoise de Dinan, known as of Thouars of the name of his/her mother, and to exonerate it certain censures, is December 17th 1450 and addressed to the bishop of Valves.
The files of the Vatican still teach us that the count from Laval and Francoise de Dinan his wife, founded a Psalette in the Madeleine de Vitré, the May 19th 1453.

The king Louis XI establishes a Court of Auditors in Laval in 1463. The following year the king authorizes Guy XIV “ his cousin ” to add a first district of France , then those of Evreux - and those of Vitré .
Brocéliande
At the beginning of the 15th century, the Château of Comper becomes the stronghold of the Laval. In order to better sit his precedence of the Viscount of Rohan to the States of Brittany, Guy XIV of Laval, lord of Brocéliande, claimed, like his relative, to go down from the former kings of Armorique Conan and Ponthus. In 1467, it made insert in its “ Chartre of Usements de Brécilie N” and which has as an aim the seigneuriaux rights to which the inhabitants of the forest, mention of the tournaments of Ponthus were subjected, thus making pass like a historical fact a fiction of novelist in the style of the legends arthuriennes “ the novel of Ponthus and Beautiful Sidoine ” a writing of the 14th century.He is lieutenant-general of the Duché of Brittany in 1472.

It is buried with collegial the Saint-Thugal in Laval. His/her daughter Jeanne of Laval is the wife of the king Rene Ier of Anjou. His/her oldest son, François will be Grand Master of France and count de Laval (Guy XV of Laval), one of his juniors Pierre by Laval is archbishop of Rheims.
