Guy Ier de Ponthieu
Guy 1st of Ponthieu († 1100) was count de Ponthieu of 1053 with 1100. It was wire of Hugues II, count de Ponthieu, and of Berthe, rams of Aumale.
Biography
It succeeded his brother, killed the October 25th 1053 with Saint-Aubin-on-Saw, whereas it lent strong hand to his brother-in-law Guillaume d' Arques revolted against Guillaume, Duc of Normandy. Guy continued the fight to avenge his brother, and took part in a forwarding of the king Henri Ier de France against the duke of Normandy, but the army was overcome with Mortemer and captured Guy, then retained in prison with Bayeux during two years. It was released only in exchange of the abandonment of its rights on Aumale and an oath of honesty.
In 1056, one sees it signing as witness a charter of the count Baudouin V of Flanders. Among the witnesses also the future Harold II appears. In 1075, Guy founds the Saint-Pierre abbey in Abbeville.
At the end of his life, William the Conqueror decides resserer the domination of Normandy on Ponthieu and organizes the marriage of Agnes, girl and heiress of Guy, with one of his faithful [[Robert II of Bellême]], which will succeed Guy.
