Guy Favreau
honourable the Guy Favreau , C.P., C.R., B.A., LL.B (May 20th 1917 - July 11th 1967) was a lawyer, a politician and a Canadian judge .
Born with Montreal with the Quebec, the son of Léopold Favreau and Beatrice Gagnon, it obtains a baccalaureat in arts and a baccaluréat in right to the Université of Montreal. It is called with the Barreau of Quebec in 1940. He works as lawyer in Montreal of 1942 with 1952. In 1952, he becomes Member of the Commission on the restrictive business practices with Ottawa. In 1955, he becomes assistant with the Deputy minister of justice. It helps to create the faculty of Civil law to the Université of Ottawa and teaches in same faculty. In 1960, it returns to Montreal to work as private lawyer.
Favreau is elected under the banner of the Liberal party in the district of Papineau at the time of the federal election of 1963 and is re-elected in the election of 1965. It is useful as minister of the citizenship and immigration (1963-1964), Minister for justice and public prosecutor of Canada in 1964-1965. The June 29th 1965, it resigns as a Minister for justice following the negociations of the Affaire Rivard.
He is president of the private Council of 1965 to 1967. Moreover, it is the leader of the government to the House of Commons as well as the chief of the Québécois liberals.
Named judge with the Superior court of Quebec the April 17th 1967, he dies on July 11th of the same year. He is too; at the origin of the Formula Fulton-Favreau.
The Complex Guy-Favreau, the principal building of the federal government in Montreal, is named in its honor.
