Guy Berthiaume

Guy Berthiaume (1950 -) is a Canadian historian of the traditional Antiquité and it devoted its career to the university administration. He is vice-rector - Development and relations with the graduates of the Université of Montreal.

Native of Montreal, it obtains a doctorate of the Université Paris VIII in 1976, after a M.A. of the University Laval (1973) and a baccalaureat of the UQAM (1972). Its thesis of doctorate is published in 1982 pennies the title the roles of the mágeiros (Leiden and Montreal).

The first 20 years of its professional life are devoted to the administration of research. After five years of service at the University of Montreal, it joint at Bottoms FCAC (invited to become Funds FCAR), a non-profit making company created by the government of Quebec in 1981. It sets up the Service of the purses, then directs the Service of the support for research and the diffusion. In 1984, it joint rows of the University from Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) as assistant editor of the Research center and creation, a station which he leaves in 1987 to become the assistant of vice-rectrice of teaching and research. For this period, Guy Berthiaume is member of the Executive committee of Canadian Association administrators of research, an association of which he becomes president in 1989-1990.

In 1989, with the invitation of the vice-chancellor Claude Corbo, he becomes vice-president managing director of the Foundation of the UQAM, the organization responsible for the collection of funds for the benefit of the UQAM. During seven years following, under its direction, the Foundation collects more than 31 million.

In 1996, it obtains a post of professor at the department of history of the UQAM. During two years which follow, it will be devoted to traditional Antiquity, creating two new courses, setting up a study trip on the ground in Italy and directing work of five students of 2nd cycle who will obtain all the diploma of control.

After one year with the direction of the Office of development of the partnerships (1999), it is selected in 2000 to be the director of the Maison of the Canadian students of the Cité international academic of Paris. During two years following, it organizes the festivals of the 75ème birthday of the House of the students (October 2001) and it publishes the acts of the conference of September 10th, 2001 ( the university international City of Paris. 75 years of evolutions , Paris, 2002).

In 2002, it is of return to the University of Montreal as assistant vice-rector and principal private secretary of the vice-chancellor Robert Lacroix. In March 2003 it is named vice-rector with the development and the public affairs, a mandate which will be renewed to him by the new vice-chancellor, Luc Vinet, in June 2005, under the title of vice-rector - Development and relations with the graduates.

Guy Berthiaume is Chevalier in the order of the academic Palmes of the French Republic (2006). He received Price daN Drives out Canadian Association administrators of research in 2000.

Since 2004, he is chairman of the board of the Corporation of the international University residence of Montreal (CUIM). He is also member of the Executive committee of the review Vie of arts and member of the Board of directors of the college Andre-Grasset.
