William Thad Cochran (born in 1937) is an American politician member of the Republican party and senator of the the Mississippi to the Congrès of the United States since 1979.

Thad Cochran is a son of teachers, born the December 7th 1937 in Pontotoc, the Mississippi.

Graduate in Psychology and political science in 1959 of the University of the Mississippi, it joined the US Navy of 1959 with 1961 then finishes studies of right in 1965.

After seven years of community activities in the legal field, he is elected with three resumptions in 1972, 1974 and 1976 with the Chambre of the Representatives of the United States.

In 1978, it is elected with the Sénat of the United States succeeding James Eastland.

He is re-elected in 1984, 1990, 1996 and 2002.
