Berg is a common French, located in the department of the the Low-Rhine and the area Alsace.

Geography

Berg has one of the landscapes most characteristic of this " country " D `Uneven Alsace. Heights girdle this thus offering village from the single points of view. Kirchberg: This church, one of oldest of Alsace, is given into 716 to the abbey of Wissembourg under the name of Villa Goes up. The origin of Berg, closely related to Thal (the valley) is here in Kirchberg. Moreover, Berg has with Thal an undivided, pilot forest of their common origin. Dedicated to St-Martin, in Jean-Baptiste, place of pilgrimage of Saint Wendelin, it was destroyed by the 2nd world war. Kirchberg, the vault and its site the restored building is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

The temple: Built in 1766 by the architect Friedrich-Joachim Stengel following negotiations between the count de Nassau-Sarrewerden and Louis XV. It was a question of separating the worships protesting and catholic. The architect designed the building according to the Protestant liturgy. This " Quersaalkirche" is unique in France. A similar building exists in Jugenheim in Germany. These various elements contribute to the classification of the temple in 1984 during work of interior rehabilitation undertaken by the commune.

The house of the baillif: It goes back to 1730. The baillif then represents the lord in the localities and in particular in the county of Saarwerden where, in 1722, a revolt is organized. The inhabitants refuse to pay the taxes. The captain Jean-Jacques Schweitzer, in function since 1706 was the first occupying one of this masonry, remarkably restored in the years 1990 by his owners.

The protesting presbytery: The demographic explosion of the male population before the revolution gives to Pasteur de Berg a central role. In addition to its liturgical role vis-a-vis a very populated parish, it holds also a role of historian. The architecture of the presbytery reflects this paramount role.
