Gustavo Díaz Ordaz
Gustavo Díaz Ordaz (* Ciudad Serdán, March 12th 1911 - † Mexico City, July 15th 1979) was President of Mexico of 1964 with 1970.
Biography
It was born the March 12th 1911 in San Andrés Chalchicomula (today Ciudad Serdán, in the State of Puebla), at 26 years it obtained a license in Right to Colegio del Estado de Puebla (since 1973, Universidad Autónoma Pública del Estado de Puebla).He assumed several political responsibilities before entering in Congreso Nacional, initially like deputy of 1943 with 1946 and afterwards as senator of 1946 with 1952. Secretario de Gobernación (Minister of Interior Department) of December 1958 at November 1963, during the president of Adolfo López Mateos, it was regarded as one of the leaders of the preserving movement of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional PRI. It became President of Mexico the 1er December 1964.
The government of Díaz Ordaz encouraged the economic development of Mexico, lanza one reforms agrarian and the construction of irrigation canals as well as the industrialization of the country.
In 1967, was signed in Mexico City the Treaty of Tlatelolco of which OPANAL Organisme for the Proscription of the Nuclear weapons of Latin America will emerge.
During its mandate, it important strikes coeds which were repressed very severely and which culminairent with bloody the sucesos of Tlatelolco, in October ago 1968, little before the beginning of the Olympic Games which was going to be held in Mexico.
December 1st 1970, its Secretario de Gobernacion (Minister of Interior Department) Luis Echeverría Álvarez succeeded to him the head of the country.
Gustavo Diaz Ortaz was the first ambassador of Mexico in Spain in 1977 when the diplomatic relations between the two countries were again regularized after 40 years of interruption.
