Gustave Leverne
Gustave Leverne chief engineer of the Shipyards of the the Gironde to Bordeaux, was born with Dijon (Coast-with Or) the December 19th 1861 and dies the November 27th 1940 with Gémenos (Rhone delta)
Biography
Graduate of the central School Paris in (1885), Gustave Leverne first of all exerts the function of naval engineer to the Shipyards of Provence with Seyne, then with the Shipyards of the Loire with Saint-Nazaire. In 1896, it is named chief engineer with the Shipyards of the the Gironde: he is in particular the originator of the modern cruisers of squadron like the " Truth (1909) " and the " Vergniaud (1910) " , but especially the " père" France II (sailing ship) (1911), the work of its life, a five-master boat, propelled by 2 engines diesel S Schneider of 900 horses which was, at its time, the sailing ship of the world, and which failed in July 1922 on the coral reefs broad of Noumea (New Caledonia).
In 1919, Gustave Leverne continues its career with Marseilles (Rhone delta) with the direction of the Shipyards of Provence until in 1926. With its retirement, it is withdrawn with Gémenos, where it dies the November 27th 1940.
Gustave Leverne is also the father of Pierre Leverne (1897 - 1974), president of the association of the combatants of less than 20 years (1914 - 1918), lawyer, director of printing works of the Newspaper South-western and Henri Leverne (1898 - 1981), member of the Légion of the Thousand (1000 younger voluntary combatants of the First World War).
