Gustave Corlin

Gustave Corlin (born on June 10th 1875 with Rully (Saône-et-Loire) - deceased in January 1970 with Paris) was a painter of Burgundian origin (Valley of the Saone).

He was pupil of the École of the Art schools of Paris where he bound to Georges Rouault. He continued his studies in the workshops of Jean-Leon Gérome, Humbert and Gabriel Guay and attended Edgar Degas. He collaborated and completed the second order of the frescos of Puvis de Chavannes for the the Pantheon. He was a pillar of the Salon of Independent the and Salon of the French artists of which he became member. He obtained in 1920 a money medal and the Valerie-Cutting price and the gold medal except contest in 1923. In 1965, a whole span of the Large-Palate was devoted to him.

In its workshop, located in the district Montsouris in the 14 {{E}} district of Paris, it exempted a modern teaching impresses academism: many studies the naked ones and copies of works the Louvre.

A Still life is presented to the public with the Musée Cantini with Marseilles (Rhone delta). Table the white Soup tureen is exposed to the museum of the Art schools with Troyes (Aube).

The Corlin workshop

This workshop of painting located behind the Boulevard Saint-Jacob, was only with some steps of the Cité Flowered which accommodated many famous artists of which the Auguste Rodin, Antoine Bourdelle, Maillol, Gauguin, Modigliani.

It functioned without stopping during more than 70 years. Gustave Corlin directed it as of the end of the Années 1920, but this workshop continued to accommodate pupils well after the death of its creator. It will be closed in 2003.

Gustave Corlin trained many pupils disseminated today in the world. The two principal ones were:

  • Yves Millecamps (born in 1930), painter and serigraphist French, member of the Academy of the Art schools of the Institute of France, raise workshop in 1950.
