Gustav Selve
Gustav Selve , February 28th 1842 with Lüdenscheid - Peddensiepen - † November 7th 1909 67 year old.
It was one of the German industrialists most important before the First World War and a benevolent leader with his personnel.
It entered the metallurgical company of his father, based with Hameln, in 1861, 19 years old, and became about it the single owner at 41 years in 1883.
It was one of the first has to remove the exploitation of the workmen. He is regarded as one of the pioneers of the social security: its employees were looked after by doctors of the company Selve, it set up a system of health insurance, accident, disability and old age. Its actions were then taken again by Bismarck. The social sector occupied a big part of its existence and worked while creating for its personnel of the working residences, the cribs, the training colleges, the stores of provisioning, the free baths, built a slaughter-house and created a bottom of support for the needy one.
Its currency was: Fidelity around a fidelity.
It was an energetic contractor. He transformed the local factory of his father by moving it with Altona, close to Hamburg, or 20% of the city worked for the company, until making a multinational of it, by creating factories, inter alia: in the Rhineland, Prussia orientalle, Saxony like abroad in Switzerland and Italy. It employed 3500 collaborators.
These factories extracted various metals of which: aluminum, nickel, brass, copper nickel zinc alloy as well as alloys of copper and zing. They manufactured parts of all kinds, for all uses: they founded aluminum coins, in particular the rigid skeleton in Aluminum of the airships Zeppelin, of a mean form, made beams out of rings and longitudinally, for the car and the motorboats, rolled copper nickel zinc alloy to make sheets of them, machined various alloy coins and struck the currencies.
Before its end, it gained 1,6 million marks per annum whereas the average wages of an employee of this time were of 1000 marks per annum.
After its death, the companies of its holding were dissolved, certain were taken again by Krupp Ag, and made an important legacy of them has its employees who thanked it by setting up an important bronze statue to him, always existing.
In 1908, he was the cofounder of the Basse & Selve, manufacturer of automobile engines, planes (Brandenburg), boats, motor bikes and employed 2000 people, his son Doctor Walther von Selve taken the succession with died of his father. His/her son, Doctor Walther von Selve was thereafter it and then the creator of the Selve Automobilwerke AG (1919 - 1930).
