Gustav Noske (July 9th, 1868 with Brandenburg year der Havel, Germany - November 30th, 1946 with Hanover, Germany) was a Politician German member of SPD. It is known for its central role in the crushing of the German Révolution.

Biography

Craftsman become journalist, elected official appointed social democrat (SPD) in 1906, he is the person in charge of the questions of defense for his party, of which he is one of the chiefs of the right wing. Specialized in the military questions, he votes the appropriations of war in 1914. During all the First World War, it ensures the connection between the general headquarter and the SPD. The army putting its confidence in him, it is charged to maintain moral troop.

Appointed governor of Kiel in 1919, it represses a Mutinerie hard sailors. Appointed then Minister for the Reichswehr (the army of the Weimar Republic) in the government of the Chancellor Philipp Scheidemann, it represses the insurrection Spartakiste of Berlin (the “bloody Week” of Berlin, from January 6th to 15th 1919), also recruiting element of the Freikorps. During this week, the two leaders of the KPD, Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg (former leaders of the left wing of the SPD), are assassinated by Freikorps, on order of Noske. He will declare then: “It is necessary that somebody makes the bloody dog: I am not afraid of the responsibilities”.

In 1920, the attempt at Putsch of Kapp takes it with deprived, involving its resignation. He becomes governor of the province of Hanover in 1920. In 1932, he proposes the re-election of the marshal Hindenburg with the Presidency of Reich, but is dislocated of his functions like social democrat by the Nazi S the following year.

After the nomination of Hitler to the chancellery of Reich, it withdraws political life. Suspected of complicity after the coup attempt of state anti-nazi of July 20th, 1944, it is put the stops and to internee in the concentration camp of Ravensbrück.
