Gurunsi
The Gurunsi or Gourounsi are people of the Burkina Faso, which is constituted in several sub-groups.
According to Doctor Salif Titamba Lankoande, in Family names (Patronyms) in Burkina Faso ) the word Gourounsi would come from the deformation of the word Guru-if which means in language Djerma Niger “iron does not penetrate”. During the invasion of Gourounsi by the Djermas come from Niger towards 1860 - 1899 and led by Babatu, this one having recruited in its army a battalion of strong young men of the annexed country, made them consume traditional drug making them invulnerable with iron; they were called Guru-if that the common language transformed into “Gurunsi”.
