Gurmençon

Gurmençon is a common French, located in the department of the Yrénées-Atlantiques and the area Aquitaine.
Its inhabitants is called Gurmençonais and Gurmençonaises.

Toponymy

The toponym Gurmençon appears in the forms Grumensoo (1383, contracts of Luntz), Gurmensoo (1385, censier of Béarn), Gurmensson and Guirmenson (1546, reformation of Béarn) and Feels Joan de Gurmençon (1620, insinuations of the diocese of Oloron).

History

Paul Raymond note that in 1385, Gurmençon counted 18 fires and depended on the Bailliage of Oloron.
Gurmençon amalgamated with Agnos on February 1st, 1973, to form the commune called Valley-of-Gave-in Aspe . It was restored on January 1st, 1983.

The activity is mainly agricultural (breeding, pastures, mixed-farming).
