Gurû Arjan

Guru Arjan Dev. (Panjabi: ਗੁਰੂਅਰਜੁਨਦੇਵ) (Born with Amritsar with the Penjab in India the April 15th, 1563 – deceased the May 30th 1606 with Lahore with the Punjab in current the Pakistan). It taken the load of guru sikh on September 1st 1581 according to the steps of its predecessor Gurû RAM Das and becoming thus the 5th guru sikh of the line of the 10 Gurûs of the sikhism. Little before its death it named his/her son Gurû Hargobind like next Guru of Sikhs.

Here principal contributions brought to the culture sikh during the reign of the guru Arjan:

  • a great number of anthems of the Guru Granth Sahib – more than 2000.
  • He is the author of the Sukhmani Sahib Bani – Prayer for peace.
  • compilation for the first time of the holy book of Sikh called at that time the Adi Granth.
  • the Construction of the " Harimandir Sahib" experienced in French under the name of Temple of Gold
  • the development of Amritsar as Center of Excellence.
  • the foundation of the cities Tarn Taran Sahib (Majha), Kartarpur (Doaba) and Sri Hargobindpur (on banks of the river Beas)
  • Improvement of the structure of the Sikh company by the introduction of the system Masund.

Guru Arjan is also the first guru with being born in a sikh family. In 1604, It compiled all the lesson of the preceding gurus in a crowned book: the Adi Granth. In 1606, he was imprisoned and tortured with died under the order of the emperor Jehangir who suspected it of supporting his opponents after the death of the emperor Akbar. He became thus the first Martyr sikh.
