Guns of Dordrecht
The Guns of Dordrecht or Guns of Dordt , officially entitled Decision of the synod of Dordt concerning the five principal points of the doctrines in debate in the Netherlands , are the conclusions of the national Synode held in the Dutch city of Dordrecht in 1618 - 1619.
Today, the guns of Dordt form one of the denominational standards of several reformed Churches in the world, including in the Netherlands, in Australia, and North America. Their continuous use as standard always causes an insurmountable problem preventing the close co-operation between the disciples of Jacobus Arminius (1560-1609), the Showing again, and the reformed Churches Dutchwomen.
These guns are actually a legal decision on the doctrinal points in debate at the time of the polemic arminienne of this time. After the death of Arminius, its disciples submitted to the governments and the assemblies of Frise and Holland a Remonstrance (published in 1610) in five articles expressing their points of divergence with the more strict Calvinisme of the Confessio Belgica . The guns are the judgment of the synod against this Remonstrance . Despite everything, the doctrines arminienne accepted later the official recognition of the State and since persisted in various forms within the Protestantisme.
The guns were not designed to be a complete explanation of the reformed doctrines, but only one exposed of the five points of doctrines in debate. These guns expose what is often indicated under the name of the Five points of the Calvinism.
