Gunnar Asplund

Gunnar Asplund (Erik Gunnar Asplund) , born the September 22nd 1885 with Stockholm and dead the October 20th 1940, was a Architecte Swedish of international repute, representative of the current of neo-classic architecture of the years 1920. It was at the end of its life a pioneer of the functionalism.

One owes him in particular the Public library of Stockholm and the principal buildings of the cemetery of Skogskyrkogården, classified with the World heritage of humanity by the UNESCO, and where it is buried. The extension of the town hall of Gothenburg, begun in 1917 and finished in 1937 gives an outline of its stylistic evolution.

It was since 1930 professor with the royal institute of technology in Stockholm.
