Gummersbach
Gummersbach is a German city of the Haut-Berg, in the South-east of the Land of Rhineland-of-North-Westphalia. It is located at 50 km in the East of Cologne. In the past, the city was called " the city of the tilleuls" , the main street being bordered of these trees.
Until in the Twenties, the inhabitants also called Gummersbach " small Paris".
History
The city was mentioned for the first time in official documents in 1109. At that time the city bore the name of Gummeresbracht. The city accepted its charter in 1857.
The small village of Gummersbach quickly developed starting from the beginning of the XIXe century thanks to textile industries and metallurgical.
