Gummed
Goma is a Ville is Democratic republic of Congo. Located at approximately 1.500 meters of altitude in the Valley of the Rift, Goma is built in edge and in the North of the Lac Kivu on the old lava flows resulting from the volcanic chain of Virunga, and mainly on those of the volcano Nyiragongo which dominates it of almost 1.000 meters to 20 km more in North.
History
The city is the base camp of the Turquoise Opération in 1994 to limit the Rwandan genocide.The city and its approximately will shelter in camps around 650.000 refugees Hutu S of 1994 until the fall of Zaire, of which some presumedly old genocidary. According to of ONG, AFDL proceeds to massacres in the camps between 1996 and 1997.
From 1998 to 2002/2003, the city, under control of the Congolese Rassemblement for the democracy (RCD) pro-Rwandan escapes control from the Congolese government.
Many a Rape S, massacres and war crimes was perpetrated there between 1996 and 2006 by the troops of the rebellious generals of the RCD, primarily under the generals Nkundabatware and Mutebesi.
In 2002, Nyiragongo entered in eruption, and a lava flow reached the center of the city. The lava destroyed many dwellings and finished its race in the lake Kivu.
Geography
The city owes its name with the extinct volcano around of which it settled, the Goma mount, which itself owe its name with the word swahili “ngoma” which mean “drum”, denomination due to its form and, perhaps, the particular resonance of the places. The crater of the mount Gummed, invaded by water of the lake Kivu with which it communicates, shelters the port of the city attended quasi exclusively by the shuttle, freight/momentary, Goma/Bukavu.Frontier city, it côtoie Gisenyi, at the East, Rwandan small town with white mica beaches the scintillating astonishment.

The city is divided into 2 communes divisiées into 6 and 7 districts administratfis:- Gummed (common): Katindo, Keshero, Volcano, Mikeno, Green Lake, Mont Gummed;
- Karisimbi : Kahembe, Katoyi, Majengo, Mabanga, Murara, Ndosho, Mugunga.
