Gum

The gum is the part of the Muqueuse S oral S which ensures the tight role of sleeve around each tooth. It also recovers the bone Alvéolaire. It is the visible part of the Parodonte.

It is pinker than the other mucous membranes of the mouth because it contains (like the skin but to a lesser extent) of the Kératine. Aspect of the healthy gum: color dew; texture " in skin of orange" ; do not bleed with the simple contact.

Various types of gums

The gum can be divided into several parts:
  • marginal Gum or free gum.
In Coronary direction , the gum ends in the free gingival edge with festooned contours. This gum delimits, between itself and the tooth, a furrow called Sulcus.
  • attached Gum.
This gum is attached to the alveolar Os subjacent.
  • Mucous free.
In apical direction, the gum continues with the Muqueuse alveolar coward, of red color darker, from which it is separated by a line of demarcation: the muco-gingival junction.
  • gingival Papilla
It is the gum located in space between each tooth.

The gum can be more or less thick, more or less keratinized. One observes a hyperkeratinisation of the gum at the smoker.

Pathologies

  • the lack of oral hygiene can lead to a Gingivite. The gingivite is an ignition of the gum due to the bacterial plate.
