Gulbuddin Hekmatyar
Gulbuddin Hekmatyar ( گلبدینحکمتیار ) is a politician and military Afghan, former Prime Minister.
He was the chief of the islamist party Hezb-i-islami . Supported by the Inter-departmental Intelligence Pakistani, it fought with its troops for the control of Kabul in 1994 against the Talibans and the troops of the Alliance of the North directed by the commander Ahmed Massoud, not hesitating to bombard the city and to involve thousands of dead and the almost total destruction of the town of Kabul. Taken between two fires, it decides to flee and is joined the talibans implicitly.
Hekmatyar would have stated on television Pakistani in 2003 to have helped Usama Bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri to be fled of the mountains of Tora Bora at the time of an offensive of the American troops.
End 2004, Hekmatyar calls with the Holy war against the the United States. Formerly protected by the CIA, it fought the Soviets.
Entered the opposition to the president Hamid Karzai, he declared in a video recording, diffused the May 4th 2006 by the chain Al-Jezira, to want from now on to fight under the command of Ayman al-Zawahiri, the number two of Al-Qaida. He from now on, is officially declared “terrorist” by the the United States.
According to Noam Chomsky, “one of the Islamic fundamentalist groups which probably appear among most fanatic of the world these last years is directed by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, extremist terrorist who was one of the favorites of the CIA and which was the principal recipient of the 3,3 billion dollars of assistance (official) of the United States to the Afghan rebels (an about equivalent amount being, says one, provided by the Saudi Arabia)”.
