Guillestre
Guillestre is a common French, located in the department of the Hautes-Alpes and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure, and chief town of the canton which bears the same name.
Geography
The town of Guillestre extends on a plate located at an average altitude from 1000 m, dominating left bank of the throats of the Guil, little before its confluence with the Durance. Located at the door of the Queyras, it is the single access point of this valley, in particular during the winter months. Guillestre is a crossroads and a starting point for the Col of Izoard, the Col of VAr, and the Col Agnel. It is also not passage between Embrun and Briançon.Communes bordering:
- Mount-Dolphin, place strengthened by Vauban, and candidate with the World heritage of UNESCO
- VAr and Risoul, winter sports resorts
- Eygliers, Réotier and the Saint-Clement-on-Durance, on the Durance

Economy
Guillestre is a crossroads of valleys where come to supply the neighborhoods in particular Monday morning market day. The economic activity is primarily centered on tourism of summer and winter. The activities of leisures are numerous in Guillestrois: Sports of running water on the the Durance or Guil, horsemanship, mountain (excursion, ski, etc), Tennis, Gliding, Parapente, VTT, 4X4, etc
The ski station nearest is the Field of the White Forest on the communes of Vars and Risoul.
